Liquid & Water Damage Repair in Hull
Liquid damage is the one repair where what you do in the first hour genuinely changes the outcome. The initial contact with liquid rarely kills a phone outright — what does the damage is the corrosion that follows, and that carries on quietly for days after the device feels dry.
Because of that, liquid damage is never a repair anyone can quote for from a description. It depends entirely on what got in, where it reached, and how long it has been there. What we can do is open the device, see the actual state of the board, and tell you honestly what we think.
Symptoms
What to do first
If you recognise any of these, it is worth having the device looked at. Bring it into the shop and we can tell you what is actually going on.
- Turn the device off and leave it off — do not keep checking whether it works
- Do not plug it in to charge; putting power through a wet board causes far more damage
- Do not use a hairdryer or a radiator, as heat pushes moisture further in
- Rice does not work and leaves starch and dust inside the device
- Dry the outside, remove any case and SIM tray, and keep it upright
- Bring it in as soon as you can — hours matter far more than days
What it may indicate
Possible causes
The same symptom can have several different explanations, and telling them apart is the point of an inspection. These are the possibilities we look at — not a diagnosis of your device.
Why corrosion is the real problem
Water rarely causes an instant failure. What it leaves behind — minerals, salts and residue — is conductive, and it eats away at the tiny components and connections on the board over the following hours and days. A phone that seems fine on day one can fail on day four.
What the liquid was matters
Clean water is the best case. Sea water, chlorinated pool water, tea, coffee and fizzy drinks are considerably more aggressive because of the salt or sugar content, and they cause damage faster. Do tell us what it was.
Water resistance ratings are not a guarantee
Manufacturer ratings are achieved with new, factory-fitted seals in controlled laboratory conditions. Seals age, and a device that has been dropped or previously opened may not perform as it did when new. A water-resistant phone can still suffer liquid damage.
What can usually be recovered
Plenty. Displays, batteries, charging ports and speakers affected by liquid can frequently be replaced, and a board that is cleaned early often recovers fully. Where corrosion has reached critical components, the honest answer is sometimes that it is not economically repairable — and we will tell you that rather than run up a bill.
How it works
What happens when you bring it in
-
We open the device and look at the board
This is the only way to assess liquid damage. We look at where the liquid has reached, how far corrosion has progressed, and which components are affected.
-
We tell you what we have found
We explain the actual condition, what we think can be recovered, and what it would cost. If the honest answer is that it is not worth repairing, we will say so.
-
The board is cleaned and treated
Where treatment is worthwhile, corrosion and residue are cleaned off the board and connectors so that the damage stops progressing.
-
Affected components are replaced and tested
Screens, batteries, charging ports and audio components damaged by the liquid are replaced as needed, and the device is tested thoroughly afterwards.
Worth knowing
Being straight with you about outcomes
Liquid damage is the one area where nobody can honestly promise a result. Two phones that went into the same sink can end up in completely different places depending on where the water travelled and how long it sat there.
What we can promise is that we will look at it properly, tell you what we actually find, and not carry on spending your money on a device that is not going to come back. If data recovery matters more to you than the phone itself, say so at the start — that changes how we approach it.
What will it cost?
Repair costs depend on the device, the model and what the inspection actually finds, so we quote per device rather than publishing a figure that would be wrong for most people. Send us the make, model and fault and we will give you a straight answer.
Questions
Liquid Damage FAQs
My phone got wet but it still seems to be working. Do I need to do anything?
Yes, and this is the situation most worth acting on. Corrosion carries on inside the device long after it feels dry, and phones that work perfectly for a few days after a soaking commonly fail later. Having it opened and cleaned early is far cheaper than dealing with the aftermath.
Does putting a phone in rice work?
No. Rice does not draw moisture out of a sealed device in any meaningful way, it does nothing at all about corrosion, and it leaves starch and dust in the ports. The time spent waiting is time the corrosion is spreading.
My phone is water resistant. Should it not be fine?
Water resistance ratings are achieved with new seals in laboratory conditions, and those seals age and degrade. A phone that has been dropped, or opened before, may not perform as it did when new. Water-resistant devices do still come in with liquid damage.
Can you get my photos off it if the phone cannot be saved?
Sometimes — it depends entirely on the state of the board and the storage. If your data matters more than the device, tell us at the start, because it changes how we approach the job. We will be straight with you about the chances.
How much does liquid damage repair cost?
It is the one repair we genuinely cannot price without seeing it, because the work depends on what the corrosion has reached. We assess the device, tell you what we have found, and give you a price before doing anything chargeable.
How quickly do I need to bring it in?
As soon as you reasonably can. Hours matter more than days with liquid damage. In the meantime keep it switched off and do not try to charge it.
